Proper hydration is essential for good health

Why is hydration essential?......

Our bodies are anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. These seem like high percentages, but they’re accurate. Ok, so our bodies are mostly water. How is this information relevant to achieving good health?

We constantly lose this water through dehydration. This process can happen in a few different ways – sweating, bodily waste, and releasing water vapor from our breath.

We must drink enough water so our bodies can be replenished and function properly. Some of the ways our bodies use water include…..

Regulating the body temperature
• Regulates metabolism
• Forming the base for saliva
• Forms the fluids that surround the joints
• Helps to alleviate constipation by moving food through
the intestinal tract
• Serves as a lubricant for joints and other areas.

When we don't drink enough water, our bodies start to have problems. The list would be too long to display here, but a few major indications of dehydration include: headaches, fatigue, and even back pain.

So how much water should you drink per day? …….about 6-8 glasses. Sound familiar? It should. That’s because good advice rarely changes….because it was good to begin with.

Naturally, you would drink more if it is hotter than usual or you are expending a good deal of energy through exercise or other activity. Being in-tune with your body’s water needs is the best way to know if you are hydrating enough.

Ok, you now know how important keeping properly hydrated is. It is also important to be drinking the best possible water that you can. We will next discuss the popular water options and the difference between……
